the north is always the north
yep.my navigation exercise!that was the advice given. trust the compass not ur instinct!ahaha. those who are my friends would know that i kindda suck at map reading/work during geog classes.ahaha, but i managed to pull through my first navi exercise at lower mandai!(see, u dont have to be super-pro at map work to not be lost in the forest). ahaha.but seriously it wasn't an easy task. the checkpoints are like soo small and close to impossible to notice. Navigating through a closed terrain was definitely tougher especially at night when wad u see is nothing unless u use ur torch. the place lower mandai may not be familiar to many, but its actually at the very place that most of us go yearly for our cross country, yes! u're right, macritchie.
2 months back, me, este and ilyas decided to go for a hike at macritchie. it was a hike that was about 10km long. we went to the hsbc treetop trail and eventually up this tower that was overlooking the dense forest. the sight of the thick vegetation made me wonder who on earth wld be darn stupid or crazy to walk through it. Little did i realise, i was that person. the person who was wandering in that forest, with a complicated compass, carying a rifle and an extremely heavy signal set looking for checkpoints hidden on tree trunks that looked the same everywhere.
nonetheless, it was an experience, an unforgetable one.
it was of course tougher at night. we had to make our way to this checkpoint about 1.5km away from our start point. since it was darker, we walked at a slower pace, bashing through wadever obstacles there were and using our compass as a guide to reach our checkpoint. we then eventually landed up in a very swampy area. due to the rain, the place that we walking through looked like a stream. then..as we were looking around to see what was the next potential route to take, we spotted a signboard. so, one of us when to checkout wad the signboard said. and can u guess wad it says?
BEWARE of CROCODILES.
upon hearing that, we dashed and ran out from that place. the most scary part was, other groups that passed through that stream pointed out that they saw moving creatures there. the crocs are probably really there! ahaha. glad that its over. but here's the problem, im going back there next week for a navi test. *sighs + worries*
